Chemists
Medicines can only be purchased from a pharmacy (not sold in supermarkets) which are generally open from 9.00am until late. 

Electricity
The voltage in Turkey is 220 volts. Sockets are 2 pin, so you will need a suitable adaptor to use electrical goods from the UK.

Water
The tap water is safe to drink but has a high mineral content which you may not be used to.  Bottled water is readily available from all supermarkets and most local shops.

Telephone
Using your mobile can work out expensive as there are not many reciprocal network deals between Turkey and the UK. The most cost effective way to call home is to use a Payphone.  Please note, Payphones only accept phone cards which can be purchased from local shops.

Banks & Money Matters
Bank opening times are Mon – Fri 09.00 – 12.00 and 13.30 – 17.00
Some banks are open half day on Saturday and lunch hours.

Cash point ATM machines can be found outside the bank and in most tourist areas and resorts.

Exchange Offices are open every day until approx 11.00pm

Foreign Currency, Travellers Cheques and Credit Cards are accepted in Turkey.  

Visa & Residency Permits
If you are a British Passport holder, you can purchase a visa on entry into Turkey.  The cost is 10GBP per person and the visa is valid for 90 days. You can then make multiple visits within this time-scale.

Non- British passport holders should check with the Turkish Embassy before travelling to ensure they have the correct travel documentation.

If you are planning to make a permanent move to Turkey you may wish to apply for a Residency Permit. These are available for 1,2,3,4 or 5 years and a subject to stringent checks. The cost of a Residency Permit is calculated on an amount per year basis and is subject to regular review. It is therefore advised that you check with the Police Office in Fethiye for current costs and procedures before proceeding.

Car Hire
There are many car hire companies in and around Fethiye. Prices vary so it is best to shop around for the best deal.  Drivers must be at least twenty-one years old, hold a full licence and have a minimum of one years driving experience.  All vehicles are left-hand drive.

Don’t forget to bring your driving licence, you will not be able to hire a vehicle without it.

  

Shopping

Most shops in the main tourist areas are open 7 days a week from around 09.00 until midnight during May – October.

Fethiye is a working town so you will find many shops remain open all year round, although the opening hours may differ in the winter season.

Popular buys in Turkey are leather goods, jewellery/gold and textiles.
